The player can useup to threemagical attacks as alternative combat options. The gamealsofeatures puzzles and platforming elements.The player controls the character Kratos in combo-basedcombat,platforming, and puzzle game elements, and battles foeswhoprimarily stem from Greek mythology, including cyclopes,Gorgons,satyrs, harpies, minotaurs, hoplites, and sphinxes.Morpheusbeasts, shades, banshees, fire guards, fire sentries,hyperionguards, and death knights were created specifically forthegame.Platforming elements require the player to climb walls, jumpacrosschasms, swing on ropes, and balance across beams to proceedthroughsections of the game. Some puzzles are simple, such asmoving a boxso that the player can use it as a jumping-off point toaccess apathway unreachable with normal jumping, but others aremorecomplex, such as finding several items across different areasofthe game to unlock one door.Kratos' main weapon is the Blades of Chaos: a pair ofbladesattached to chains that are wrapped around the character'swristsand forearms. In gameplay, the blades can be swungoffensively invarious maneuvers. The gameplay consists of players embarkingonvarious missions to hunt specific monsters. The primary goal ofthegame is to complete missions by successfully taking outpowerfulmonsters, retrieving their parts through "devouring",breaking acertain body part of an Aragami or receiving them asrewards, andusing them as materials to craft or upgrade parts forthe GodArc.Additionally, players may also gather minerals, medical kits,andvarious materials to improve their weapons. Players canfreelyswitch between three forms: "Blade Form" for close combat,"GunForm" for long-range shooting, and "Shield Form" forprotectionagainst attacks during "Blade Form".One notable feature of the franchise is the ability to "eat"theenemy Aragami during combat with the God Arc's "PredatorForm".Successfully doing so will enter a state called "BurstMode",granting players increased speed, attack power, and specialaccessto a limited set of "Aragami Bullets", which can be usedagainstthe Aragami. Another notable feature is the Bullet Editor,whichallow players to customize their own unique bullets. Thesebulletscan also be used by the player during missions.The goal is to defeat all or specific Aragami in the designatedareawithin the time limit depending on mission objectives.Additionalrewards are gained depending on how efficiently themission wascompleted. Players can dash, sprint, and jump byconsuming staminathat auto-regenerates over time.Players can upgrade, enhance and craft Blade, Gun, Shield,UpgradeParts for their God arc using materials primarily foundinmissions. Gods Eater introduces a new equipment part calledtheControl Unit which bestows different abilities to the user wheninBurst Mode depending on the Unit equipped.
